About

Manifesto of Design and Research in Experimental Architecture (mdrxa) was set up as an independent architectural think tank founded by Qhawarizmi Norhisham and Yasmin Rahman.

In recent years, mdrxa has had a large body of research work that focused in areas such as housing, urban design, spatial manipulation and alternative farming. Majority of findings and ideas have been presented at international conferences, developed and then tested via design competitions in various platforms. Through support and collaboration, mdrxa has emerged as one of the notable names in the design competition scene. They believe that each participation enables fresh ideas and novel solutions to be vigorously discussed and effectively conveyed to the public. They consistently question the notion of experimental ideas in architecture and processes of architecture.

Qhawarzimi currently runs his own practice, Qhawarizmi Architect, a small registered Architectural set-up, as a sister company to mdrxa. Both Qhawarizmi & Yasmin are licensed architects under the Board of Architects Malaysia, and are visiting lecturers at Taylor’s University. Currently mdrxa is focusing on documenting, curating and publishing their research work in an accessible medium they call Manifesto. The Manifesto Series attempts to further entice thinkers alike by provoking and cultivating debate within the profession to push the possibility of architecture and its applications.
